Support Pick & Counter Guide s3 Update w/ Unorthodox supports

Alright, I typically do not do an update to this chart so soon after the last one, but I think I made a few mistakes in the last one that needed to be corrected. The biggest thing was that because of the increased number of viable supports and the addition of champions like Thresh and Nami, the format started to break a little bit as there became less and less overlap due to the higher increased number of possible counters. The whole point of this chart is for overlap so this was going against the goals I had in mind in creation. To fix these goals, and to fix the "where is zilean on the chart!?!" requests, I added a new section titled Unorthodox Supports. These have the typical counterpicks that I've asked people who specialize in this champion as well as what I've seen in my experience. This should keep overlap in the actual chart without leaving out some supports which people feel so endeared with.

As always, let me know what you think and you can follow me (or let me know) via facebook or twitter. And you can also check out an android phone app I made with some cool people: "Spellsy's Support Cards".

For a blog/facebook-special I have also released an alpha version of the description of each countermatchup in the chart from above, it is pre-release so it is not the best format, but here it is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AllLJAxUt7qcdEhWbnVfTEtZM0otdDd2R2pkTUJ1bGc&single=true&gid=0&output=html

Also, here is the new desktop version <coming soon>.

  2. It says one of cait's top synergies is with elise? i thought elise was an unorthodox support and would not be included in that section

  3. For your counter pick chart in the google docs, I think there is a slight mistake in the Zyra section, the champion doesnt match the counter pick description.
Thanks for the guide though! This is very helpful!

  4. Really good guide, helps me able to focus on support champ pool and get better by making sure I can play a counter to most lanes. I would add Support Volibear to the Unorthodox Supports, he has gotten alot of play lately.

What are you thoughts on Support Nunu after 3.7 patch? How hard is Sona getting nerfed in 3.8 patch? Do you think she will still be top tier with Lulu and Thresh?

  8. Nami and Zyra are two counters to quinn - Quinm's E forces her to land in a predictable location... allowing for easy follow up with what is sometimes a hard to land skill shot... turning what is normally a won trade for Quinn into punishment from the enemy team.

  9. Hi! I've been recently playing top lane "pro" (2000 ELO solo que) and I can attempt to suggest some good champions with hopeful logic behind them!

Zed: Zed is squishy as we all know and cannot defeat a Vi for his entire life, however in terms of team fights he can imbalance the entire game due to his assassination skills, which is why you see Zed's usually get great scores! As well in lane phase he is amazing at starving his enemy completely of minions and never missing one as himself, you just have to make sure to spam W E over and over! If I had to give statistics around 20:00 I'd have to give my enemy around 1/3 of the minions that I have, and the fact that junglers hate zed due to his shadow flash abuse. He's currently my favorite top champion but again, he has VERY Hard counters. 8.5/10

Gangplank: Gangplank is a unique champion, he has only one ability that's notable for damage in a lane (his Q) which is an re-constructed auto attack that is ranged. That means that Sheen, Iceborn, and Trinity will procc with his Q! He can get more gold than the enemy in lane and has pretty good resistance to people due to his poke gets ridiculous once you get Sheen or some crit. I played him "pro" for some time due to his insane MS (around 480!) , around 1.5k Q crits, and his R is global to help people escape or secure a kill. However his counters are the more "tanky" tops, Malphite, Vi again, Poppy, Garen is a possible counter but not as much. -- His fruit also removes all CC and effects. 8/10

Fun champion: Thresh ADC, he may be made for support but in the end game he will end up the strongest ADC implied in the game due to his soul adds. 80% of all souls will be added to your blue chain, however red chain is at 200% souls, late game thresh will have around 120 (low) souls and a 240 damage, 240+120(reduced by 20%) (Souls ARE Magic damage); though I only play ADC Thresh when I have my pre-made group and a blitz thresh grab combo.

From your list it actually is displaying the weaker tops, I will not suggest people like "Darius" or "Garen" for those are just boring and begging for a win like a mutt.

  10. This is a very insightful blog. The analysis of TSM is simply awesome. This will get me concentrate on the objective rather than FB. Is there any strategy for amumu build that can make the champion win.

  13. First of all, I must say that really love what you did with this chart. Its simply awesome and personally, I think its very reliable.

I have a few questions, which is not to challenge your chart, but just to ask about your opinion.
    1. I thought Nunu and Caitlyn was one of the best bot lane combos (this is my favorite). However, its not on the chart. Why?
    2. What happened to Kog'maw + Nunu?

(P.S. I m a huge Nunu support fan. Nunu helped my AD friend jumped up a lot of tiers.)

  14. I would love to see you do more of those support cards any plans to ?

  15. So I just noticed that on here you have Nami listed as a Trist counter, but on your support cards app you say that Trist counters Nami. Out of curiosity which one is it and why?

  16. What about support Jarvan?
Gap closer, AS Aura, naturally tanky, initiator, Armor shred, lock down ult, area slow....he is jus like leona but a lil bit weaker...but still can get the job done...I had success in normal abd rank games wit support J4....thoughts?
